No one thinks twice about their thermostat. But in the few houses and apartments I’ve lived in, programming the thermostat has been a huge hassle.
Tony Fadell who was formally SVP of the iPod Division at Apple (some refer to him as the “godfather of the iPod”) has launched Nest - a learning thermostat that’s beautifully designed. For $249 this thing is a steal, especially because in their research Nest found that thermostats control about 50% of Americans’ energy bills. Think about the savings over time.
Update: Tim Quirino pointed out that the Nest’s interface was designed by Mike Matas - the former co-founder of Delicious Library, who worked on the Apple team that designed major interfaces for OS X and iOS. Mike co-founded Push Pop Press in 2009 and was recently acqhired by Facebook.
